Librarians are New Producers.
We blog about libraries and information. We believe information should be free to all, and we do our best to make it so. Cutting edge libraries are even letting users tag their catalogs, effectively democratizing the ultimate library production tool.
Librarians make New Markets.
It can be argued that librarians are the original aggregators, bringing together (as much as humanly possible) something for everyone. We develop collections, material and digital. We cater to whatever niche markets exist in our communities.
Librarians are New Tastemakers.
"First, let's get one thing straight: The Long Tail is indeed full of crap" (p. 116). Librarians are the tastemakers of the information universe. We pre-filter. We post-filter. We arrange our physical collections...non-fiction, biography, manga, young adult, DVDs, CDs, books on tape, and the list goes on. We catalog and organize our digital collections. We bring order to chaos and don't let people mistake apples for apples.
